The Greeting

Bless the Lord all you works of the Lord:
praise and exalt the Holy One for ever.
Bless the Lord you angels of the Lord:

O people of God bless the Lord:
praise and exalt the Holy One for ever.
Bless the holy and undivided Trinity, one God:

The Kyrie [ii]

The Deacon offers the Bidding and the Community responds with the Kyrie.

God, be gracious to us and bless us,
and make your face shine upon us:
Kyrie, Kyrie eleison.

May your ways be known on the earth,
your saving power among the nations:
Kyrie, Kyrie eleison.

Make known your salvation,
and reveal your justice in the sight of the nations:
Kyrie, Kyrie eleison.

May the God of love and power forgive us
and free us from our sins,
heal and strengthen us by the Spirit,
and raise us to new life in Christ our Lord.  Amen. [iii]

The Collect of the Day

Let us pray.

Gracious One,
you satisfy the need of every living creature.
Fill us with gratitude for the abundance of the earth
and for the bonds of love and care
that unite all creation into one family.
May our thanks be the soil
in which dreams of justice grow and thrive;
through Jesus Christ, the Lord of the harvest.  Amen. [iv]

The Proclamation of the Word

The First Reading

A reading from Deuteronomy (8.7-18).

8.7 For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land with flowing streams, with springs and underground waters welling up in valleys and hills, 8 a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey, 9 a land where you may eat bread without scarcity, where you will lack nothing, a land whose stones are iron and from whose hills you may mine copper.  10 You shall eat your fill and bless the Lord your God for the good land that he has given you.

11 Take care that you do not forget the Lord your God, by failing to keep his commandments, his ordinances, and his statutes, which I am commanding you today.  12 When you have eaten your fill and have built fine houses and live in them, 13 and when your herds and flocks have multiplied, and your silver and gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied, 14 then do not exalt yourself, forgetting the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, 15 who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, an arid wasteland with poisonous snakes and scorpions.  He made water flow for you from flint rock, 16 and fed you in the wilderness with manna that your ancestors did not know, to humble you and to test you, and in the end to do you good.  17 Do not say to yourself, “My power and the might of my own hand have gotten me this wealth.”  18 But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, so that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your ancestors, as he is doing today.

Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church.
Thanks be to God.

The Psalm

Psalm 65 from Songs for the Holy One.

Refrain (sung twice):  We praise and thank you, Holy One, for your gifts to us.

Praise must come to you, O God!
Vows must be fulfilled on Zion!
To you, who listens to prayer,
all may confess their sins.
When our sins overwhelm us,
you forgive them.
Happy are those you invite,
those you bring to live in your courts.
The good things of your house,
your holy temple,
give them full satisfaction.

Refrain:  We praise and thank you, Holy One, for your gifts to us.

O God our strong deliverer,
answer us with awesome deeds,
to make everything just and right.
You are trusted to the ends of the world
and to the depths of the seas.
You set the mountains in place;
you are clothed with great power.
You calm the raging oceans,
the roaring of their waves
and the tumult of the nations.
Those who live at the ends of the earth
are awed by your marvellous signs.
The outgoings of morning and evening rejoice.

Refrain:  We praise and thank you, Holy One, for your gifts to us.

You visit the earth
and it flourishes, greatly enriched.
The divine river is full of water.
You have prepared the earth
to provide grain for everyone.
You drench earth’s furrows,
smooth her ridges,
soften her with showers,
and bless her growth.

Refrain:  We praise and thank you, Holy One, for your gifts to us.

You crown the year with your bounty
and your passing flows with fatness.
Even the desert pastures flow with fatness!
The hills are surrounded with joy!
The meadows are clothed with flocks;
the valleys are dressed in grain.
They shout and sing!

Refrain:  We praise and thank you, Holy One, for your gifts to us.

The Second Reading

A reading Paul’s Second Letter to the Corinthians (9.6-15).

9.6 The point is this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.  7 Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.  8 And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work.

9 As it is written, “He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.”

10 He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.  11 You will be enriched in every way for your great generosity, which will produce thanksgiving to God through us; 12 for the rendering of this ministry not only supplies the needs of the saints but also overflows with many thanksgivings to God.  13 Through the testing of this ministry you glorify God by your obedience to the confession of the gospel of Christ and by the generosity of your sharing with them and with all others, 14 while they long for you and pray for you because of the surpassing grace of God that he has given you.  15 Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church.
Thanks be to God.

Hymn before the Gospel

‘Alleluia’  Common Praise #714 (refrain only, sung twice)

The Gospel

The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke (17.11-19).
Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

17.11 On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee.  12 As he entered a village, ten lepers approached him.  Keeping their distance, 13 they called out, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”  14 When he saw them, he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.”  And as they went, they were made clean.  15 Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice.  16 He prostrated himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him.  And he was a Samaritan.  17 Then Jesus asked, “Were not ten made clean?  But the other nine, where are they?  18 Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?”  19 Then he said to him, “Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well.”

The Gospel of Christ.
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

The Homily

An Affirmation of Faith

Let us affirm our faith in God.

We long for you, O God,
we confess our deep desire;
for the heavens are arrayed
with your unhidden beauty.

You are the source of our yearning, O Christ:
you are the way of glory.
Bearing our sweet and humble flesh,
fruit of a woman’s womb,
you were made and moulded as we are.

Spirit of discernment, integrity and fire:
breathe on our fearfulness,
refine our truthfulness,
and sing through our speechlessness;
so that we may daily refuse what is evil,
and be taken up with praise.

Merciful Creator, of an infinite tenderness;
wounded Redeemer, by whom all flesh is moved;
Comforter of fire, who leads us into truth;
we offer you our praise.  Amen. [v]

Offertory Hymn

‘God, Whose Giving Knows No Ending’  Common Praise #601 (sung to #374)

Prayer over the Gifts

Let us pray.

Blessed are you, O God, maker of all things.
Through your goodness you have blessed us with these gifts:
our selves, our time, and our possessions.
Use us, and what we have gathered,
in feeding the world with your love,
through the one who gave himself for us,
Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord.  Amen. [vi]

The Thanksgiving at the Table

The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is indeed right that we should praise you, gracious God,
for you created all things.
You formed us in your own image:
male and female you created us.
When we turned away from you in sin,
you did not cease to care for us,
but opened a path of salvation for all people.
You made a covenant with Israel,
and through your servants Abraham and Sarah
gave the promise of a blessing to all nations.
Through Moses you led your people from bondage into freedom;
through the prophets you renewed your promise of salvation.
Therefore, with them, and with all your saints
who have served you in every age,
we give thanks and raise our voices
to proclaim the glory of your name.

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.  Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.  Hosanna in the highest. [vii]

Holy God, source of life and goodness,
all creation rightly gives you praise.
In the fullness of time, you sent your Son Jesus Christ,
to share our human nature,
to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you,
the God and Creator of all.
He healed the sick and ate and drank with outcasts and sinners;
he opened the eyes of the blind
and proclaimed the good news of your kingdom
to the poor and to those in need.
In all things he fulfilled your gracious will.

On the night he freely gave himself to death,
our Lord Jesus Christ took bread,
and when he had given thanks to you,
he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said,
“Take, eat:  this is my body which is given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.”

After supper he took the cup of wine;
and when he had given thanks,
he gave it to them, and said,
“Drink this, all of you:
this is my blood of the new covenant,
which is shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sins.
Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

Gracious God,
his perfect sacrifice destroys the power of sin and death;
by raising him to life you give us life for evermore.

Therefore we proclaim our hope.
Dying you destroyed our death.
Rising you restored our life.
Lord Jesus, come in glory.

Recalling his death, proclaiming his resurrection,
and looking for his coming again in glory,
we offer you, Source of all life, this bread and this cup.
Send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts,
so that all who eat and drink at this table
may be one body and one holy people,
a living sacrifice in Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Through Christ, with Christ, and in Christ,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory is yours, Author of creation, now and for ever.  Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

As our Saviour taught us, let us pray,
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial,
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever.  Amen. [viii]

The Breaking of the Bread

You gave your people angels’ food
and sent them bread from heaven,
so that your children might learn, O God,
that it is your word which sustains all who trust in you. [ix]

This are the gifts of God for the people of God.
Thanks be to God.

The Sending Forth of the Community

Prayer after Communion

Let us pray.

God of abundance,
with this bread of life and cup of salvation
you have united us with Christ,
making us one with all your people.
Now send us forth in the power of your Spirit,
so that we may proclaim your redeeming love to the world
and continue forever in the risen life of Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen. [x]

Glory to God,
whose power, working in us,
can do infinitely more
than we can ask or imagine.
Glory to God from generation to generation,
in the Church and in Christ Jesus,
for ever and ever.  Amen.
